The primary reason we use this model is for predictability. In the past, we’ve priced work both per-project and per-hour and have had success and challenges with both models. After 10+ of working with teams of all sizes, we’ve found that the “subscription” (most similar in sprit to a retainer) model works best for both us and the client. We know how many clients we will have per sprint and benefit from predictable revenue to sustain our team of 11 people. Clients benefit from peace of mind knowing that they can get continuous high-quality design work without trading estimates and invoices (if it’s a quoted project), highly variable billable hours (if it’s an hourly engagement), or paying a full time salary for a top quality senior designer (>$100,000 + benefits + recruiting).

You can cancel your subscription at any time if all of your design needs have been met. Most of our clients choose to work with us because they anticipate ongoing work for their business. So if you only have one item to do, you’re probably better off going with an agency or freelancer who charges per-project.

We’re currently putting together a cohort of clients to test this process out with. Conceptually, this is a beta program where we will work closely with our early adopters to refine the processes, tools, and workflows that make up the program. The goal is to apply an iterative, product-style mindset to our service that will allow us to build a program that’s tailor-made to fit the needs of the modern working world.

We do not offer refunds.

You will receive new deliveries on your requests within 1-3 days on average. Design projects are, by nature, highly variable in scope. So for smaller tasks a delivery will usually mean a completed design. For complex requests, we’ll break the work out into milestones and deliver accordingly.

After signing up, we’ll create a shared board in Trello that will serve as our central resource. You create requests by adding information to a new Trello card.

Total output in a given tends to be dependent on the level of detail in the requests you submit. For example, if you need a website designed and you already have a creative brief, moodboard/style references, wireframes, and copy written, then you can expect to see UI progress in Figma right away. If you do not have these items, our team will work with you to define and/or create them! However, this necessarily means that it will take longer to get a polished end product.

As long as you’re a client, there is no limit to how many iterations we will work on for you. This is definitely one of the main benefits of the model.
